How to use this calculator
Normalize each income and expense to a monthly amount and calculate the remaining budget. Enter amounts in the units shown, select the applicable options, and click Calculate. Use Reset to restore the starting values.
Calculation formula
Monthly surplus = monthly after-tax income − spending − savings allocations.
Assumptions and accuracy
Review timing, rates, fees and result notes when comparing scenarios. Future returns and rates are assumptions rather than guaranteed outcomes. Monetary display follows the currency’s precision; intermediate calculations retain additional digits.

Monthly budget calculator with different pay frequencies
Normalize entered income and expenses to a monthly budget. Use realistic recurring costs and check whether each item is weekly, monthly or annual.
Open this calculationUnderstanding this calculation
Normalize income, spending and savings allocations to a monthly household budget. Surplus is what remains after the flat tax assumption and all entered allocations.
Worked examples
Monthly budget after tax and housing
Illustrative inputs are specified in the steps below; the example link loads the complete settings. Unmentioned settings use the linked defaults.
- Gross monthly income 6,000 less an assumed flat 20% tax leaves 4,800. Subtract 1,500 housing and zero other allocations to leave 3,300.
Monthly surplus / deficit: 3,300 USD.
Try these inputsCommon questions
Are savings treated as part of my monthly budget?
Yes. Savings allocations reduce the unallocated surplus even though they are not the same as consumption spending.
How should I enter annual insurance or other yearly bills?
Select the annual frequency so the amount is spread across months. Entering an annual total as monthly would overstate spending.
Scope and assumptions
The income tax percentage is a manual flat estimate, not a progressive tax calculation. Irregular expenses and missing entries can overstate surplus.
