CAGR Calculator
Find CAGR, reverse compound growth and annualized return from beginning and ending values.
Calculate the compound annual growth rate from a beginning value, ending value and elapsed years.
Result
The endpoint values imply 7.1773% annual compound growth. This smooths the full period into one rate and excludes any intermediate deposits or withdrawals.
CAGR is a constant annualized rate between positive starting value and nonnegative ending value. It does not measure volatility or account for intermediate deposits/withdrawals; use IRR for cash flows. Currency amounts use USD display only.
How to use this calculator
Calculate the compound annual growth rate from a beginning value, ending value and elapsed years. Enter amounts in the units shown, select the applicable options, and click Calculate. Use Reset to restore the starting values.
Calculation formula
CAGR = (ending / beginning)^(1 / years) − 1.
Assumptions and accuracy
Review timing, rates, fees and result notes when comparing scenarios. Future returns and rates are assumptions rather than guaranteed outcomes. Monetary display follows the currency’s precision; intermediate calculations retain additional digits.

Worked examples
Double over ten years
begin: 10000; end: 20000; years: 10
- Divide 20,000 by 10,000 to get 2.
- Take the tenth root and subtract one: 2^(1/10) − 1.
Compound annual growth rate: 7.177346
Try these inputsReverse CAGR ending value
begin: 1000; rate: 10; years: 2
- Multiply 1,000 by 1.10 twice.
- Ending value = 1,000 × 1.10² = 1,210.
Ending value: 1,210

How do I calculate CAGR in Excel?
For beginning value in A2, ending value in B2 and years in C2, use =(B2/A2)^(1/C2)-1 and format as a percentage. This is a formula example, not an Excel workbook download.
Is CAGR the same as average annual growth rate?
No. An arithmetic average adds annual returns and divides by their count. CAGR is the geometric annualized endpoint growth rate. Deposits and withdrawals can make endpoint CAGR misleading; use IRR or XIRR for dated cash flows.
Can I use CAGR for revenue or sales?
Yes, for positive beginning revenue and nonnegative ending revenue over the same reporting basis. Revenue CAGR measures growth, not profitability.
Scope and assumptions
Positive beginning value, nonnegative ending value and a positive duration are required. A zero ending value implies a complete loss and a −100% CAGR. Date mode uses actual days divided by 365.2425. Intermediate cash flows require IRR, not endpoint CAGR.

Calculation methods and formulas
CAGR
Calculate the compound annual growth rate from a beginning value, ending value and elapsed years.
CAGR = (ending / beginning)^(1 / years) − 1.
Ending Value
Reverse CAGR to find a future ending value, without intermediate cash flows.
Ending = beginning × (1 + CAGR)^years.
Beginning Value
Find the starting value implied by a CAGR, ending value and period.
Beginning = ending / (1 + CAGR)^years.
CAGR with Dates
Annualize between two dates using actual elapsed days divided by 365.2425.
Years = UTC elapsed days / 365.2425; CAGR = (ending / beginning)^(1 / years) − 1.
