- Contributions
- Net earnings
The ending balance includes $22,000.00 of your own money (starting amount plus deposits). Net investment earnings are $9,998.32, after the entered tax on interest. These are modeled amounts, not guaranteed returns.
Interest is accrued monthly using the selected compounding equivalent. Tax is charged on positive interest at each year end; tax losses are not carried forward.

How to use this calculator
Project the balance, contributions, and earnings over time. Enter amounts in the units shown, select the applicable options, and click Calculate. Use Reset to restore the starting values.
Calculation formula
Balance grows at the equivalent periodic rate, with contributions added at the selected timing.
Assumptions and accuracy
Review timing, rates, fees and result notes when comparing scenarios. Future returns and rates are assumptions rather than guaranteed outcomes. Monetary display follows the currency’s precision; intermediate calculations retain additional digits.
Choose what to calculate
Savings interest calculator
Project savings at your entered interest rate, with contributions and compounding. This tool does not fetch account offers or current bank APYs; convert an APY to the selected rate convention before comparing.

Open this calculationUnderstanding this calculation
Savings growth depends on starting money, deposit timing, the rate convention and compounding. The inflation-adjusted result expresses purchasing power rather than an additional account balance.
Reading your result
- Ending balance
- The modeled nominal balance after contributions, growth and modeled interest tax.
- Total contributions
- Starting money plus later deposits; it does not mean interest earned.
- Inflation-adjusted balance
- Ending balance divided by accumulated assumed inflation over the saving period.
Compare two scenarios
- Compare two deposit amounts with the same return, compounding and timing.
- Then change the return assumption separately; check how inflation changes purchasing power without changing the nominal account balance.
Check before comparing
- An APY is an effective annual yield; do not treat it as a nominal monthly-compounded quote.
- Beginning-of-period deposits earn interest sooner than end-of-period deposits.
- No bank offers or current high-yield account rates are fetched.

Worked examples
Build savings with monthly deposits and no interest
Illustrative inputs are specified in the steps below; the example link loads the complete settings. Unmentioned settings use the linked defaults.
- Twelve deposits of 100 add 1,200 to the opening 1,000, giving 2,200. Contribution timing does not change a zero-rate result.
Ending balance: 2,200 USD.
Try these inputsSave 12,000 in a year with monthly deposits
Target 12,000 USD, no current savings, one year, zero interest and no annual deposit.
- Twelve monthly deposits must total 12,000.
- Required monthly deposit = 12,000 / 12 = 1,000.
Required monthly deposit: 1,000 USD.
Try these inputsReach a savings goal after twelve deposits
Target 12,000 USD; starting amount zero; 1,000 deposited monthly at zero interest.
- Each month adds 1,000.
- 12,000 / 1,000 = 12 months.
Months to savings goal: 12.
Try these inputsCommon questions
Can I increase savings contributions each year?
The tool has separate increase assumptions for recurring contribution streams. Check which stream you are changing rather than adding the increase twice.
Does deposit timing matter for savings growth?
At a positive return, beginning-of-period deposits generally have more time to earn. At zero return timing does not change the contribution total.
How much should I save each month to reach my savings goal?
Open Savings Goal: Monthly Deposit, enter the target, current savings and deadline, and choose the interest and deposit timing assumptions. The result is zero if the projected balance without monthly deposits already covers the goal.
How long will it take to reach my savings goal?
Open Savings Goal: Time Needed and enter your recurring deposits. The solver checks whole months up to 200 years; it reports an error if the target is not reached within that modeled limit.
Can I use this as a high yield savings calculator?
Yes, with an interest rate and compounding frequency you enter. The calculator does not fetch current account rates, compare banks or recommend a product. APY is an effective annual yield; a quoted nominal rate with a compounding frequency is a different input convention.
Scope and assumptions
The projection uses a constant return and simplified tax/inflation treatment. It does not forecast bank rates or market outcomes.
